Community Rules

This is a civilized space for public discussions

Please treat this discussion forum with the same respect you would show a public park. We are also a shared community resource — a place where skills, knowledge, and interests are exchanged through ongoing conversations.

These are not strict, immutable rules. They are guidelines designed to support the community’s human judgment and to maintain a friendly, respectful space for civilized public discussion.

Enhance the discussion

Help us make this a pleasant discussion space by always adding something positive to the conversation, even if it seems minor. If you’re unsure whether your message adds value, take a moment to reflect and return later if necessary.

One way to enhance the discussion is to discover existing ones. Take the time to browse topics before replying or creating a new one: you’ll be more likely to connect with people who share your interests.

The topics discussed here are important to us, and we ask that you treat them as such. Be respectful of both the topics and the people participating, even in disagreement.

Stay courteous, even in disagreement

You are certainly free to express disagreement. However, it is important to critique ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Insults
  • Personal attacks (ad hominem)
  • Responses based on tone rather than content
  • Impulsive contradictions

Instead, offer constructive reflections that enrich the discussion.

Your participation matters

The conversations we have here influence newcomers. Help shape the future of this community by engaging in interesting discussions — and avoiding those that are not.

Discourse provides tools for the community to identify the best (and least helpful) contributions: bookmarks, likes, reports, replies, edits, tracking, muting, etc. Use these tools to improve your experience and that of others.

Together, let’s improve the community beyond its initial state.

If you see a problem, report it

Moderators have special authority and are responsible for the forum. But community members also play a role. With your help, moderators can facilitate the community rather than just monitor it.

When you see problematic behavior, do not respond. Responding often encourages such behavior and wastes energy. Instead, use the report function. If enough reports are received, action will be taken automatically or by a moderator.

To preserve the community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and user accounts for any reason. Moderators do not preview new posts and are not responsible for content published by the community.

Always remain courteous

Nothing harms a healthy conversation more than rudeness:

  • Be respectful. Do not publish anything that a reasonable person might find offensive, abusive, or hateful.
  • Stay appropriate. Avoid obscene or sexually explicit content.
  • Respect others. Do not harass anyone, do not disclose private information, and do not impersonate someone else.
  • Respect the forum. Avoid spam or any form of content degradation.

These concepts are not strictly defined — avoid even the appearance of such behavior. If in doubt, ask yourself how your message would be perceived if it were picked up by a mainstream media outlet.

This forum is public and indexed by search engines. Ensure that your language, links, and images remain appropriate for all audiences.

Keep the forum organized

Strive to place topics in the right place to spend more time on discussions and less on moderation:

  • Do not create a topic in the wrong category
  • Do not open multiple identical topics
  • Do not publish content-less replies
  • Do not hijack an ongoing discussion
  • Do not sign your messages (your profile information is already visible)

Instead of replying with “+1” or “agreed,” use the Like button. To drastically change the subject, use the reply-as-new-linked-topic feature instead.

Publish only your own content

You may not publish digital content belonging to others without permission. It is also prohibited to share methods, links, or descriptions that enable violations of intellectual property or any other law.
