How to Use Location Search, Sort, and Filters on Kijiji

Kijiji’s search tools help you find listings more precisely by allowing you to control where you search, how results are sorted, and which listings appear.

You can refine your search using location-based distance filters, sorting options, and advanced filters on both web and mobile.

Location Search (Search by Distance)

Kijiji allows you to search by distance from a specific location, rather than limiting results to city boundaries. This helps you find items closer to you, whether you are in a large city or a rural area.

How to set your location on kijiji.ca (web)

  1. Click the location field in the search bar.
  2. Enter one of the following:
    • Street address
    • Postal code
    • City
    • Province
    • Or “All of Canada”
  3. Select a suggested location from the dropdown list.
    (You must select a suggested option before applying.)
  4. Use the Distance slider to choose how far you want to search from your selected location.
  5. Click Apply.

Tip: Search by Region Instead of Distance

You can also select “Search all of [location]” to browse within broader geographic boundaries. This option may group smaller communities into larger nearby centres.

How to set your location on the Kijiji App

  1. On the homepage, tap your current location.
  2. Enter:
    • Address
    • Postal code
    • City
    • Province
    • Or “All of Canada”
  3. Adjust your search radius using the Distance slider or by entering a custom value.
  4. Tap Set Location.

From a search results page, you can also tap the Location field at the top to update your search.

Sorting Search Results

Sorting controls how listings are ordered on the results page.

Available Sort Options

  • Best Match – Prioritizes relevance based on factors such as title, description, category, and recency
  • Most Recent – Shows newest listings first
  • Least Recent – Shows oldest listings first
  • Lowest Price – Sorts from lowest to highest price
  • Highest Price – Sorts from highest to lowest price

Kijiji may automatically default to the most relevant sort option depending on your search and category.

Important Note: Listings in the Top Ads section are not affected by sorting. These ads rotate independently.

Using Filters to Refine Results

Filters help you narrow down listings based on specific criteria.

You can use filters to:

  • Show Wanted vs. Offering listings
  • Filter by private sellers or dealers
  • Set a price range
  • Refine by item condition, category-specific attributes, and more

Filters appear on the results page and update based on the category selected.

Category-Specific Filters

Filter options change depending on the category.

For example:

  • In Cars & Vehicles, you may see filters like:
    • Make and model
    • Body type
    • Colour
    • Mileage
    • Condition
  • In broader categories, fewer filters may be available until you select a subcategory (such as Cars & Trucks).

For best results, always select a category and subcategory first.
