## Why did I receive a Kijiji email with a random mix of letters and numbers?

Some emails from Kijiji may appear to come from an address made up of random letters and numbers (for example: 32j19va6og5v0@rts.kijiji.ca). This is expected behavior and is part of Kijiji’s secure messaging system.

## Why Kijiji uses randomized email addresses

Kijiji uses anonymized email addresses to protect users from:

- Spam and unsolicited messages
- Phishing and scam attempts
- Exposure of personal email addresses
- Fraudulent or off-platform communication attempts

Instead of showing a real user email address, Kijiji generates a unique, anonymous forwarding address for each conversation.

This allows users to communicate safely without revealing personal contact information.

## How it works

When someone sends you a message through Kijiji:

1. Their real email address is hidden
2. A unique Kijiji forwarding address is created
3. Your reply is automatically routed to the correct user

You do not need to interact with or save this address — it is handled entirely by Kijiji’s messaging system.

## Why some emails show a normal email address

In some cases, such as:

- Job postings
- Business or dealer listings

a standard email address may be displayed instead of an anonymized one.

This allows employers or businesses to confirm identity and manage recruitment or customer communication more directly.

## Important security warning: email blocking

Be careful when blocking senders in your email inbox.

Blocking a randomized address like **@rts.kijiji.ca** may unintentionally block all Kijiji system messages.

To avoid issues:

- Only block specific email addresses when necessary
- Do not block the full domain unless you intend to stop all Kijiji emails

## Key takeaway

Randomized sender emails are a security feature, not a scam. They help keep your personal information private while allowing safe communication between users on Kijiji. ![rtaImage (2)](https://yyz1.discourse-cdn.com/kijiji/images/transparent.png)
