Digital Items & Accounts

Digital Items and Accounts Are Not Permitted on Kijiji

To help protect our community from fraud, malware and viruses, copyright infringement, unauthorized access, and other safety risks, Kijiji does not permit the sale, purchase, trade, or giveaway of digital items or online accounts.

Listings that offer digital goods, account access, or similar products may be removed and may be subject to additional moderation measures.

What Types of Digital Items Are Prohibited?

The following are examples of digital items and accounts that are not permitted on Kijiji:

  • In-game currency

  • Skins

  • Virtual items

  • Unlocks or upgrades

Unauthorized Digital Goods

Any digital item that the seller is not authorized to transfer, distribute, or sell.

Devices, Services, or Accounts Used to Circumvent Access Controls

This includes products, services, or accounts that facilitate unauthorized access to copyrighted or restricted digital content.

Why Doesn’t Kijiji Allow the Sale of Digital Accounts?

Unlike physical goods, online accounts generally cannot be transferred through an officially supported ownership process.

Even after a buyer receives login credentials, the original account owner may still be able to:

  • Reset the password

  • Recover access to the account

  • Remove the buyer’s access

  • Transfer or disable the account

Because ownership often cannot be verified, these transactions carry a higher risk of fraud.

What Are the Risks of Buying a Digital Account?

Purchasing a digital account may expose buyers to several risks, including:

Account Recovery by the Original Owner

The original account holder may regain access after receiving payment, leaving the buyer without the account or their money.

Account Suspension or Closure

Many companies prohibit the sale, transfer, or sharing of accounts in their Terms of Service. Accounts found to have been sold or transferred may be suspended or permanently closed.

Fraud and Misrepresentation

Buyers may receive incorrect account information, lose access shortly after purchase, or discover that the account does not contain the content or features that were advertised.

Malware and Virus Risks

Some digital goods may be distributed through unofficial download links, modified software, or unauthorized file-sharing methods.

Downloading or installing files from unknown sources may expose your device to:

  • Malware
  • Viruses
  • Spyware
  • Ransomware
  • Unauthorized access to personal information

Because Kijiji cannot verify the safety, authenticity, or source of digital files shared between users, these transactions may present additional security risks..

Copyright and Licensing Concerns

Some digital goods cannot legally be transferred or resold. Attempting to sell or purchase these items may violate licensing agreements or intellectual property rights.

What Happens if I Post a Prohibited Digital Item?

Listings that violate Kijiji’s policies may be removed without notice. Repeated violations may result in additional account restrictions or moderation actions.
